Reflora: A Takeout Container for a Sustainable Future
University of Cincinnati
Role: Original Concept and Fabrication of Product
For this project my team was tasked with coming up with a solution to a problem facing the dwindling bee population. One of the problems facing bees is that there are not enough flowers in the urban environment for them to feed off of and get pollen. During lunch with my team, I commented on what a shame it was that our disposable containers would go into the trash. I wondered whether we could produce these out of biodegradable material and seeds so consumers could beautify their cities and provide food for our pollinators. This solution would also allow waste that ended up in landfills and streets to produce flowers all over the city. Takeout containers that ended up in oceans would also decompose, reducing the pollutants in our seas.
